Tips for a Healthy Brain

April 10, 2023, 8:53 pm

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), keeping your brain healthy can help lower your risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias which affect memory, thinking and the ability to perform daily activities.

Check out these tips for boosting brain wellness:

  1. Stay mentally active. Activities like reading, putting together puzzles, and playing card or board games stimulate your brain and help maintain its sharpness.
  2. Exercise regularly. Physical activity increases blood flow to the brain which has been shown to promote healthy brain function.
  3. Stay social by keeping in contact with family and friends. According to the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, social isolation and loneliness in older adults can cause the risk of developing dementia to increase by up to 50%.
  4. Manage chronic conditions. When left unchecked, chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes can increase the risk of developing dementia.
